Mannar is a major business town in Alappuzha, Kerala. Mannar is traditionally well-known for the bronze industry as well as for making handicraft products such as temple lamps, church bells, Uruli, Deepasthambham, Kodimaram, etc. Thus, this place is named " THE BELL METAL TOWN OF KERALA". Mannar is the second biggest destination for metal products in India. One of the unique works of the craftsmen at ALACKAL is the world-class product, the world's biggest cauldron placed in an antique shop in Jew Town in Kochi. There are many small-scale manufacturing establishments engaged in this business, employing traditional workers. Fine clay is the essential raw material for the lost wax method of metal casting and it was readily and cheaply available on the banks of the river Pampa. So later many artisans from other states like Tamilnadu started migrating here and this also helped the town to become the hub of metal handicrafts production.

At present, people belonging to the Viswakarma community are involved in making these handcrafted products. . In Kerala, every temple and church has Mannar's metal products. Most of the products made here are significantly large-sized and thus heavyweight. Beautiful and unique products were made by the magical hands of the Vishwakarma community. These people were paid well and were encouraged in making more and more of these products. At present, there are only 12 units working for the craft. One of the reasons behind people prefer products from Mannar is; handmade and have no defects. This is because of the material which is used to mold the product. We mainly focus on the prime technique, " WAX-LOST METHOD".
